Our Verdict

Service Autopilot has the deepest lawn-care-specific feature set in the market — chemical tracking, crew management, property measurements, and automation sequences that no competitor matches. But that power comes with a brutal learning curve, a clunky interface, and declining customer satisfaction since the Xplor acquisition. If you're a growing operation that needs enterprise-grade automation and you're willing to invest weeks in onboarding, SA can be transformative. If you want something that works on day one, look elsewhere.

recommend Best For

Mid-size lawn and landscape companies (5–50+ employees) that need deep automation, chemical tracking, crew management, and lawn-care-specific workflows.

Service Autopilot is the most polarizing software in the lawn care industry. Operators either swear by it or swear at it — and both groups have valid reasons.

On the feature side, SA is unmatched. It was built specifically for lawn care and landscape businesses, and it shows. Chemical application tracking with state compliance reporting? Built in. Property measurement tools for accurate estimating? Yep. Automated sequences that trigger follow-up emails, text reminders, and crew notifications based on job status? SA wrote the book on it.

The "Autopilot" features — automated marketing sequences, smart scheduling rules, and workflow triggers — are genuinely powerful when configured correctly. A well-tuned SA setup can automate 80% of your office work. The problem is getting there.

The interface looks like it was designed in 2012 and hasn't been meaningfully updated since. Navigation is confusing, features are buried in nested menus, and the mobile app is frustrating compared to Jobber's. Customer support has declined significantly since Xplor Technologies acquired the company, with users reporting long wait times and unhelpful responses.

The forced payment processor (SA Payments) is a sore point — you can't use Stripe or your preferred processor without paying extra. And the pricing jump from Startup ($49) to Pro ($199) to Pro Plus ($499) is significant.

If you're running 10+ crews and need the automation horsepower, Service Autopilot is still the most capable tool for lawn-care-specific operations. But go in with eyes open about the learning curve and support challenges.
